2024 . 10 . 31
On Friday, September 13th, several start-ups in Stuttgart had a reason to celebrate: the Region Stuttgart University Award recognized the most innovative university start-ups in the region at the Stuttgart Town Hall. Sponsored by the Stuttgart Region Economic Development Corporation (WRS), the award celebrates outstanding start-ups with forward-thinking ideas. Out of 17 participating teams, PVision and enerlace were selected as top prize winners.
PVision won 1st place and a prize of €3,000. Supported by the University of Media (HdM) and an EXIST grant, PVision has developed software that uses drone imaging and AI-based computer vision systems to analyze photovoltaic systems in real time. This innovation enables maintenance companies to monitor the condition of the systems more efficiently. PVision benefited from support from both the HdM Startup Center and the University of Stuttgart's startup network.
enerlace, a team of graduates from the University of Stuttgart and HdM, took 2nd place and €2,000. The start-up, which received a Young Innovators grant, offers a web application for the automated monitoring of wind Lidar data. This tool saves time and supports the scaling of wind farm development projects.
HdM was also recognized for its strong commitment to supporting start-ups and received a prize of €1,000. "Collaboration with start-ups provides students with the opportunity to tackle real-world challenges and develop innovative solutions. Both sides benefit — students gain valuable experience, and the start-up receives valuable support," explained Dr. Susanne Stingel, Professor of Business Informatics and mentor to the winning team.
Other award winners included:
- Evergrow Elements (3rd place, Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences)
- Bloom (4th place, HdM)
- CropShare (Wildcard for the ASAP BW Finale, University of Hohenheim/HdM)
The Region Stuttgart University Award was launched in 2022 by the Stuttgart Region Economic Development Corporation in cooperation with NXTGN to support start-ups founded at Stuttgart’s university campuses. Start-ups with at least one team member who is a student or graduate (up to five years post-graduation) and in the pre-foundation phase are eligible to apply. The competition is organized by Startup Campus 0711, the joint start-up network of Stuttgart universities.
